Here's Five New Coffees

  • Cameroon Mifi Bamboutos Mountain - has pleasant body with brown sugar sweetness and roasted barley notes. A nice savory-sweet mix of baked sweet yam and raw sugar is furnished as it cools. Nutmeg-spiced finish.

 

  • Colombia Finca Monte Verde Gesha - has a weighty mouthfeel, like apple juice, and refreshing acidity that adds to the tactile impression. It's truly a refreshing cup with a whole host of fruit notes with 'tea' flavors. This coffee is clean as they come, brisk like the flavors found in the cup, and the finish coming to a point.

 

  • El Salvador Finca Matalapa Guayabo - has a chocolatey thickness that is like dark chocolate torte, along with a bittering cacao flavor and hints of roasted almond and pistachio. This is a classic mild Central American coffee profile.

 

  • Ethiopia Dry Process Yirg Adado Sulula - has dried blueberry notes, as in blueberry granola. Initial cocoa nib flavor passes into the complex sweetness of raw demerara sugar. Dried apricots assert themselves, with suggestions of mango as well. We find this coffee to really bloom in aromatics with a long post-roast rest of 2-3 days.

 

  • Ethiopia Dry Process Yirg Buufata Konga - is top-loaded with fruit notes of peach jam, chocolate-dipped strawberry, and lychee hints, accented by sweet spices cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom. It's a well-bodied cup, which carries a sweetness of date sugar and molasses long in the aftertastes. This is a coffee that will keep the descriptive adjectives rolling!

A 7-pack of excellent single origin coffees

Colombia Finca La Mesita - raw sugar sweetness and malic to tea-tannic brightness with Asian pear, red raisin, apple, lime-aid, and cinnamon stick. Good for espresso.

Costa Rica Helsar - La Petisa - shows balance in sugar sweetness and bittering cocoa tones with red grape, cherry, and raisin.

Costa Rica Los Crestones Finca Alaska - has a pleasant tartness, cranberry and habiscus, along with sweet flavors of raisin, plum, and oatmeal cookie. Buttery to chocolate tones in the finish.

Guatemala San Diego Buena Vista Yellow Bourbon - balanced sweet/bittersweet tones and structured brightness, highlighted by notes of brisk tea, chamomile herbal infusions, and citrus.

Honduras San Fernando - Rodriguez Pacamara - has an aroma of sweet pipe tobacco and complex sugar browning. It's laden with honey sweetness, dried tamarind and date.

Honduras Santa Elena - Región Cueva Pintada - shows excellent sweetness with counteracting bittering burned sugar, and cocoa powder. Mild fruit flavors are off in the distance and the finish is sweet and clean.

Tanzania Mbeya Iyula Mill Peaberry - Aroma of roasted barley and Assam tea, with an underlying simple syrup sweetness, and baking spice top notes. Flavors of darker roasts run the range of chocolate liqueur to licorice root.

Ironing Out the Wrinkles

  • Cart Slugishness and Crashing: Our cart developers are taking this very seriously! They are working around the clock to optimize checkout!
  • Military addresses not showing up at checkout - The cart developers are in the process of fixing this issue.
  • ACCOUNT MIGRATION UPDATE: All of the customer accounts are migrating from the old database to the new database. Some have moved over already, some are still moving, and some will move in the next few days. You don't need to wait for your account to move to place an order, just checkout as a guest and save the email receipt for your records. To see if your account has moved yet, click on the reset password link. If your account has migrated you will be able to reset your password and log in to your account. If this doesn't work, try again in a few days.
  • Green Coffee Pages: We have some exciting updates to our green coffee list including; sorting and filtering functions, one page ordering with descripters instead of photos, comparison and related products, and more.
  • Defaulting to Oakland address- this has been fixed.
  • Mobile site issues- these have been resolved.

Say Hello to Seven New Coffees

Costa Rica Helsar - Macho Arce - a bright, balanced cup showing subtle complexity as it cools. Dark berry notes, apple pie filling, red honey, and a citrus peel twist.

Costa Rica Chirripo - Finca Jonny - sweet, citrus-like acidity, grape jelly, blackberry and plum juice, and array of fruit tea notes.

Guatemala Acatenango Gesha - Fresh tropical fruits, red punch, herbal and black tea flavors, and brilliant acidity in the cooling cup.

Guatemala Proyecto Xinabajul FC Mendez - a bodied cup, unrefined sugar sweetness, and a mild fruits. In middle roasts look for raw cane juice, toasted almond, apple hints, and malic acidity.

India Arabica Karnataka Kohinoor - Simple syrup sweetness, roasted nut, licorice hints, and a barley tea note.

Roasted Coffee Subscription: Ethiopia Muhrawbi Limu and Burundi Kayanze Mpemba

For this installment of the bi weekly roasted coffee subscription we chose two more coffees from Africa. We have quite a few recent arrivals from Ethiopia, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and some others too like Uganda and Yemen. I was really happy to roast two of my personal favorites , the Ethiopia Muhrawbi Limu and the Burundi Kayanze Mpemba


I took the Ethiopia Muhrabawi Limu to a City+ level in order to develop more of that simple syrup sweetness but still preserve the acidity. Their is a nice flavor of stone fruit like a white peach as well as a hint of citrus. There is also an interesting floral aroma coming off the cup. The body reminds me of honey graham cookies. Overall this coffee is not as fruited or complex as our other current offerings from Ethiopia. Still a great coffee though and more similar to some of our coffees from Rwanda and Burundi.
