Cupping the Brazil Minas Gerais 2002 Auction Lots

 

It's the middle of the Christmas rush, but its also time for the Brazil Auction. Me samples arrived by air shipment from Brazil yesterday, and I have been cupping them like crazy, reduced the original set down to 18, and now down to 9. There are some very nice coffees among these, and in fact all are really good single-origin cups. As of now, My favorites somewhat parallel the "official" cupping results below, and the Faz. Agua Limpia I that was champion was my 2nd highest score. So far my top picks run the gamut of cultivars and processing methods, and that was true when I cupped the Brazils last year too. (Notice there are no traditional dry-processed among the winners!) -Tom 12/4/02
